About the Artist

Sylvia Armstrong’s artistic journey didn’t begin in childhood — it began after retirement. Raised in a lively family of six children, Sylvia grew up surrounded by love, laughter, and imagination. What she lacked in material things, she gained in creativity and curiosity.

Her grandfather, a landscape painter, unknowingly planted the earliest spark. But life took Sylvia in a different direction. She earned an associate degree in business administration and spent her career in the telecommunications industry, taking on a variety of roles and responsibilities.

It wasn’t until a simple paint‑and‑sip event years later that everything changed. A dormant passion woke up, and Sylvia realized she had found a part of herself she didn’t know was missing.

Since then, Sylvia has become a self‑taught abstract artist whose work is fueled by color, nature, music, and imagination. She works primarily in mixed media and watercolor, creating pieces rich with texture, pigment, fibers, and natural elements. Many of her paintings carry a sense of mist, fog, and atmosphere — a quiet invitation for viewers to step into her world.

Her Emerging series is one of her proudest achievements, a collection that blends vivid color and organic materials into striking abstract forms. Inspired by many artists, Sylvia’s work honors the beauty of impressionism while embracing her own expressive style.

Her art has earned awards and recognition in Colorado and Arizona, and she proudly serves as President of the PebbleCreek Art Club based in Goodyear, AZ. She is also affiliated with West Valley Art, Ground Floor Artists, Arizona Artists Guild, and the Arizona Art Alliance.

Sylvia’s story is proof that creativity has no deadline — and that it’s never too late to discover the artist within.
